PeakLoadout finding
TrainerRoad's $209.99 annual plan is the most expensive of the six US-dollar annual plans priced here on 24 October 2026; the cheapest, Xert at $99.95, costs 48% as much, and the cheapest live coach on TrainingPeaks costs $1,788 a year, 8.5 times TrainerRoad.
By the reason you are looking:
Costs 48% of TrainerRoad's annual plan, bills $14.99 a month if you prefer, and gives a 30-day trial with no card. Its pricing page says paid plans carry no feature tiers; its homepage also lists a free "Starter" tier ("Free. Forever. No credit card required"), which the pricing page does not show.
Pro is the tier that includes the SYSTM app, daily workout recommendations and structured plans; its annual saving is listed as $35.89 against $17.99 a month. The trial button reads "14 day free trial, then $4.99/month", which is the Core price, so choose Pro deliberately.
One subscription covers everything, built on a neural-network "Digital Twin" trained on your own workouts. Its page lists $20 a month or $200 a year ("Save $40") with 14 days free and no payment info. It sits only $9.99 below TrainerRoad, so choose it for the sports, not the price.
Lists Essential at $16.99 a month or $155.99 a year and Premium at $28.99 or $264.99, each marked "Save 24%". The free trial is equivalent to the Premium level, so what you test is not what the cheaper plan includes.
Three reasons come straight from TrainerRoad's own pages. First, the price: $21.99 a month or $209.99 a year, which its page frames as "Save $54 a year" (twelve monthly payments are $263.88, so the saving is $53.89). Second, there is no free trial; the page offers a 30-day money-back guarantee instead. Third, it needs a sensor: its FAQ says TrainerRoad works with "smart trainers, classic trainers with a speed sensor, or any bike with a power meter, indoors and outside."
Read the chart for what it shows: four alternatives sit well under TrainerRoad, but the next most expensive, AI Endurance, is within $9.99. Leaving TrainerRoad for AI Endurance buys a different sport mix, not a lower bill.
| App | Monthly | Annual | Free trial | What it needs from you | Sports |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TrainerRoad (reference) | $21.99 | $209.99 | None; 30-day money-back | Smart trainer, classic trainer with a speed sensor, or a power meter | Cycling; tri and off-road plans |
| Xert | $14.99 | $99.95 | 30 days, no card | Power meter | Cycling |
| TrainingPeaks Premium | $19.95 | $134.99 | 14 days | Any device data (load model) | Multisport |
| HumanGO Essential | $16.99 | $155.99 | Free trial at the Premium level (length not stated on its FAQ) | Wearable data, feedback, availability | Ride, run, triathlon |
| Wahoo Pro (SYSTM) | $17.99 | $179.99 | 14 days of full Pro | Smart trainer recommended, not required | Ride, run, swim, strength |
| AI Endurance | $20 | $200 | 14 days, no payment info | Power for cycling; chest strap for readiness | Run, ride, triathlon |
| JOIN | €16.99 | €119.99 | 7 days | Heart rate and/or power | Cycling (exports runs) |
Prices and trials in this table were re-read on each vendor's own page on 24 October 2026. The equipment and sports columns for the alternatives were read on 20 October 2026; TrainerRoad's equipment line is from its homepage FAQ, read 24 October. Annual saves against monthly are as each vendor states them: TrainerRoad "Save $54 a year", Wahoo Pro "Save $35.89", AI Endurance "Save $40", Xert "Save 44% vs monthly", HumanGO "Save 24%". Five of the six alternatives name a trial length, from JOIN's 7 days to Xert's 30, and HumanGO says it has one without stating how long on its FAQ. Two details change what a trial is worth. Wahoo's button reads "14 day free trial, then $4.99/month", so the trial rolls into the Core plan, while the SYSTM app sits in Pro at $17.99 a month. And Xert's pricing page and homepage describe free access differently: the pricing page leads with the 30-day trial; the homepage lists a "Starter" plan as "Free. Forever. No credit card required", with a basic workout library. Read both before you decide what you are signing up for.
For some riders it is the real alternative, and it is priced on another scale. TrainingPeaks lists live coaching at $149 a month (Bronze), $229 (Silver) and $359 (Gold), each including a TrainingPeaks Premium account. Bronze lists a free initial consultation with an accredited coach, a custom plan, two emails a month, one phone call a quarter and one plan adjustment a month; Silver adds feedback on key workouts, unlimited emails, one call a month and two adjustments a month; Gold lists feedback on every workout with unlimited emails, calls and plan adjustments.
A year of Bronze costs $1,788, 8.5 times TrainerRoad's annual plan. The two are not the same product, so the comparison is a price scale, not a verdict: an app adjusts the plan automatically, a coach adjusts it with judgement and a conversation.
1. WHY ARE YOU LEAVING? price -> Xert $99.95 (48% of TrainerRoad), needs a power meter no sensor yet -> HumanGO, JOIN or Wahoo Pro (heart rate or effort) more sports -> AI Endurance or Wahoo Pro want a human -> a TrainingPeaks coach from $149 a month 2. DO YOU WANT TO TRY BEFORE PAYING? 30 days, no card -> Xert | 14 days -> AI Endurance, Wahoo, TrainingPeaks 7 days -> JOIN | none -> TrainerRoad (30-day money-back) 3. HOW WILL YOU PAY? annual saves: TrainerRoad $53.89, Xert 44% vs monthly (its page) 4. WHAT STAYS THE SAME? TrainerRoad also takes a speed sensor on a classic trainer or any bike with a power meter, indoors and outside 5. HOW WILL YOU JUDGE IT? after six weeks: sessions completed, threshold estimate, how the hard days felt
Every app here plans from what you record, so the sensor matters more than the logo.

On 24 October 2026 we re-read, in a rendered browser, the pricing or product page of TrainerRoad (pricing page and homepage), Xert (pricing page and homepage), AI Endurance, Wahoo SYSTM, HumanGO (FAQ), JOIN and TrainingPeaks (pricing for athletes, including its Premium trial answer), checking the address and title of each page in the same step as the read. The address /adaptive-training on TrainerRoad redirected to its homepage, so claims from it are attributed to the homepage. Percentages and multiples are computed from the listed prices. Equipment requirements for the alternatives are from our 20 October read and are marked as such.

It depends on why you are leaving. Xert ($99.95 a year, 48% of TrainerRoad's price) is the cheapest adaptive option if you have a power meter; Wahoo Pro ($179.99) and AI Endurance ($200) cover more than cycling; HumanGO ($155.99) and JOIN plan from heart rate as well as power.
TrainerRoad costs $21.99 a month or $209.99 a year on its own pricing page (read 24 October 2026). The page shows annual billing as $17.45 a month and "Save $54 a year", which matches twelve monthly payments of $21.99 less $209.99.
Its pricing page names no free trial. It offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you pay first and can cancel within 30 days for a refund. Xert, AI Endurance, Wahoo SYSTM, TrainingPeaks Premium and JOIN each list a free trial of 7 to 30 days.
Not necessarily. TrainerRoad's homepage FAQ says it works with smart trainers, classic trainers with a speed sensor, or any bike with a power meter, indoors and outside. It does need one of those inputs.
TrainingPeaks lists live coaching from $149 a month (Bronze), $229 (Silver) and $359 (Gold), billed monthly. Twelve months of Bronze is $1,788, 8.5 times TrainerRoad's $209.99 annual plan.
TrainerRoad is the priciest of the six dollar plans here, but only the alternatives at the bottom of the range, Xert and TrainingPeaks Premium, are meaningfully cheaper. Switch for a reason you can name: price with a power meter, more sports, no sensor, or a human. Whatever you pick, judge it after six weeks on the sessions you completed, not on the app's own predictions.
