The new owner honours no warranty on bikes bought before 15 December 2025 and offers a new one on bikes bought after 15 May 2026. Bikes bought between those dates are not addressed on Rad's warranty page at all.
PeakLoadout finding
Rad's current warranty page covers two purchase windows (before 15 December 2025, which it sends to the bankruptcy, and after 15 May 2026, under the new owner) and says nothing about bikes bought in the five months between them.
It depends on when you bought the bike:
Rad Power Bikes Inc. filed for Chapter 11 on 15 December 2025 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Washington (case 2:25-bk-02183), listing about $32.1 million in assets against $72.8 million in liabilities, as part of a process to sell the company (Bicycle Retailer; docket summary). Three weeks earlier the Consumer Product Safety Commission had warned owners to stop using three Rad battery models after 31 fire reports, saying Rad had refused an acceptable recall (CPSC warning 26-118).
At auction on 22 January 2026, Life Electric Vehicles Holdings won the brand, intellectual property and inventory for about $13.2 million in cash, ahead of a $13 million backup bid from Retrospec's parent (Micromobility.io). The sale completed in late February or early March: Rad's own page dates new ownership to 27 February 2026, while the buyer's announcement followed on 5 March (Electrek). The old company is now New Summit Collective, Inc.
Rad Life Mobility (RLM), a Florida subsidiary of Life EV, issues the new warranty and runs sales and service under the Rad name. Its page is explicit that for products bought before 15 December 2025 "RLM has no obligation to provide warranty or other service", and that such claims "must be submitted as part of the bankruptcy process by filing a Proof of Claim". It also says RLM is reviewing upgrade policies it "may provide solely at its discretion".
Reports differ on what the buyer took on. Micromobility.io's January report listed warranty claims among assumed obligations; the buyer's own announcement says only "certain warranties"; Rad's page, the document an owner would actually rely on, disclaims pre-filing bikes. We report the page.
Four routes are documented, and which applies depends on the battery model and the purchase date.
Discounted replacement batteries. Since May 2026, RLM has offered Safe Shield replacement batteries to owners of older bikes at up to 50% off, by emailed code (Electrek, 26 May 2026). On 20 October 2026 the battery upgrade page was taking preorders, and Safe Shield packs were listed at $349 to $599.
Credit-card rights. Federal rules give cardholders a billing-error dispute with written notice within 60 days of the statement (CFPB) and, for purchases over $50, a claims-and-defenses right subject to conditions in Regulation Z §1026.12(c). Whether either fits a particular purchase is a question for the card issuer.
Parts and service. radpowerbikes.com still sells spare parts (64 of 66 listed parts were in stock on 20 October 2026) and lists local service partners.
1. CHECK THE BATTERY LABEL
RP-1304 / RAD-S1304Y / HL-RP-S1304 -> CPSC warning 26-118:
stop using, dispose as hazardous waste, do not sell it on
2. FIND YOUR PURCHASE DATE (order email or card statement)
before 15 Dec 2025 -> RLM: no warranty obligation; claims
belonged in case 25-02183 (E.D. Wash.); general bar date
was 23 Feb 2026 (passed)
15 Dec 2025 to 15 May 2026 -> warranty page is silent; ask
Rad Life Mobility in writing and keep the reply
after 15 May 2026 -> RLM limited warranty: 2 yr frame,
2 yr or 300 cycles battery; photos or video required
3. CREDIT CARD (federal rules, CFPB)
billing error: written notice within 60 days of the statement
claims and defenses: purchases over $50, limits apply
4. KEEP RIDING SAFELY
Safe Shield batteries $349 to $599; 50% codes emailed to
eligible owners; RLM help line 1-800-939-0310A new Rad bike bought after 15 May 2026 comes with RLM's warranty, and on 20 October 2026 all eight bikes in the US catalog were available, from the RadRunner at $1,499 to the RadWagon 5 at $2,399. The RadCity and RadRover lines are gone from the catalog. The new terms are comparable to Aventon's and better than Lectric's on paper; the open question is the track record of a company that took over the brand in February. If warranty strength drives your choice, our Lectric vs Velotric comparison and commuter e-bike guide show each maker's terms beside the specs.
Dates and figures come from the CPSC warning, the court docket summary, Rad's warranty and support pages, its store product data, CFPB pages and trade press, all read on 20 October 2026. Where sources disagree (the completion date, and whether the buyer assumed warranty claims) both are reported and Rad's own page is treated as the operative document. This page reports what those documents say; it is not legal advice.
For Rad Life Mobility: if your policy for bikes bought between 15 December 2025 and 15 May 2026 is published somewhere we missed, send the link via our contact page and we will update this page the same week.
For bikes bought after 15 May 2026, yes: Rad Life Mobility, the new owner's subsidiary, offers a limited warranty of two years on the frame and two years or 300 cycles on the battery. For bikes bought before 15 December 2025, its warranty page says it has no obligation and directs claims to the bankruptcy proof-of-claim process.
Life Electric Vehicles Holdings, Inc. won the January 2026 auction with about $13.2 million in cash and runs the brand through its Florida subsidiary, Rad Life Mobility. Rad's warranty page dates the new ownership to 27 February 2026.
Rad's warranty page, updated 14 May 2026, addresses bikes bought before 15 December 2025 and after 15 May 2026 but not the window in between. Owners in that window should ask Rad Life Mobility in writing.
CPSC warning 26-118, issued 24 November 2025, names battery models RP-1304, RAD-S1304Y and HL-RP-S1304, used on bikes including the RadWagon 4, RadCity 3 and 4, RadRover 5 and RadRunner 1, 2 and Plus. The CPSC told owners to stop using them and dispose of them as hazardous waste.
The general proof-of-claim deadline in case 2:25-bk-02183 (E.D. Wash.) was 23 February 2026, and the government deadline was 15 June 2026; both have passed. The court docket is the place to check for any later orders.
Check the battery model first, then the purchase date. Bikes bought before 15 December 2025 have no warranty from the new owner; bikes bought after 15 May 2026 have a two-year one; bikes bought in between are in a window the warranty page does not address. The 50% Safe Shield battery offer is the one documented help available to every older owner.
